About David Berg
David Berg is a nationally recognized trial lawyer whose fearless pursuit of justice has defined his career across five decades. Whether defending the powerless or taking on some of the country’s most notorious defendants, David has earned a reputation for courage, courtroom excellence, and an unshakable moral compass.
From arguing—and winning—a landmark First Amendment case before the U.S. Supreme Court just two years into his practice, to helping shut down Ku Klux Klan paramilitary activity in Texas, David has never backed down from a fight that matters. His co-counsel in that Klan case, legendary civil rights lawyer Morris Dees, described David as “a people’s trial lawyer in the Clarence Darrow tradition,” a title earned not just through landmark victories, but through unwavering integrity in the face of danger.
But David isn’t just a high-stakes litigator—he’s a principled advocate. As a member of President Carter’s Justice Department transition team, he fought for expanded pardons and GI benefits for Vietnam War resistors, even when it meant sacrificing a potential White House counsel appointment. He’s also a devoted husband and father, and the author of The Trial Lawyer and Run Brother Run, books that reflect both his mastery of the law and his personal journey.

About Joel M. Androphy
Joel M. Androphy (1953-2023) has been a partner in Berg & Androphy (now the Law Offices of David Berg) since 1985. Androphy began his career as a law clerk to The Honorable Norman W. Black, late Chief Judge, United States District Court, Southern District of Texas. A long-time participant in bar matters, Androphy was formerly a member of the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas, and an appointed member of the Texas Commission for Lawyer Discipline.
Joel Androphy has served as Program Directors for the American Bar Association’s National False Claims and Qui Tam Trial Institute from 2013 to the present. Joel has handled the jury selection, opening, and closing arguments. Joel and Sheryl Androphy are honored by Child Advocates at 2014 Pull For Kids Classic. Child Advocates, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization in Houston dedicated to breaking the cycle of child abuse through the court appointed special advocate system. They stand up for abused children who are lost in the system and guide them into safe environments where they can thrive.
